Cable for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is often used as an alternative transmission technology, when overhead lines cannot be used for a variety of reasons, such as very crowded and protected areas, over rivers or off the coast.
Insulation for extruded cables is made using polyethylene connected (XLPE). Due to the progress in material science, XLPE has reached high dielectric strength, low dielectric constant, high insulation resistance and strong mechanical quality. These characteristics are combined to make it an effective insulating environment for power underground transmission.
XLPE cables used in HVAC systems can be divided into two different types:
Cables set in the ground
The number of cores (conductors) woven together to make the cable is another method in which any type of conductor can be distinguished from others. There may be one or three cores in its architecture.
Globally, HVAC cables see widespread use in voltage levels up to 550 kV. This is the highest score of Kabul. Since 1995, the extruded XLPE insulators have been used in 275 kV, and since about 2000, they have been used in 400 kV.
Extruded insulation cables that are designed for use with HVAC systems are also often used for subsea fittings. Currently, cables for HVAC systems which have extruded insulation can cover the voltage of the transmission system up to 550 kV.

Advantages as well as application areas
XLPE low dielectric loss makes it an ideal insulator for medium and high voltage cables. This is the main advantage of using XLPE. The dielectric loss factor is about a tenth of what it is for paper-insulated cables, and it is approximately a hundred times less than for PVC-insulated cables.
The advances in manufacturing and installation processes also greatly increased the use of this type and significantly increased its prevalence.
At least forty years can be expected from XLPE cables in their lifetime. The largest temperature that HVAC XLPE can withstand in a short circuit is around 250 degrees Celsius and can withstand temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius. There are a few issues that need to be fixed when using HVAC systems that use XLPE cables.
These challenges include long-term viability after injury or failure, transient behavior and reactive power of the cables. It is essential to carry out detailed risk assessments on case-by-case basis for network performance.
